Koreans have been known for their smooth and flawless skin from a long time. The secret of their skin has come out to be some extensive skincare routine they follow. It has 10 steps (or more), which is way more than what we normally follow. Sometime back, we had a poll on our Facebook page asking our followers if they knew about the Korean Beauty Regime. Surprisingly, the majority of them don’t know. So with this blog, we hope we are able to enlighten you. Since Korean beauty and its effects are still being talked about; so some general knowledge will be helpful. The most popular steps in the regimen are-
The first step in the Korean Beauty Regime. In simplest terms, cleansing is the removal of undesirable elements. Face cleansing, therefore, refers to removing all the impurities off the face so the nutrition goes deep inside the pores. Koreans normally use two types of cleansers; oil based and water based. Oil-based cleansers remove oil-based makeup, SPF and other impurities (since water repels oil) and after it, water-based cleansers to remove the remaining residue and making the skin supple. Its purpose is to find a way so that your skin is not stripped or dried out. In the market, cleansers are easily available and can be used daily as well.
Toning and Exfoliating
Skin toning lotions freshen the skin. Toning helps remove any residue that may have been left behind even after cleansing. It also helps in restoring the natural pH level of the skin, making skin clean, clear and ready to be hydrated. Toning is the protective step after gentle, but a thorough cleansing of skin as it keeps pores clean so is important for both men and women. It also leads to healthy skin making it more receptive to nourishing care that comes with moisturizing.
Exfoliation is the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface. Through exfoliating, we can get rid of the dullness on the face, revealing the fresher, younger cells below and restoring skin’s natural clarity and brightness. One can go for exfoliation easily 2-3 times a week. The nourishing serums and ampules can reach deeper in the pores and do their magic. When it comes to Korean Beauty Regime, both these steps are essential.
Until now, we have cleared the skin to help the essences get in deeper the pores of our skin. Essences are the heart of Korean skincare. Essence is a kind of toner/serum hybrid that hydrates skin and aids skin repair and cell turnover. Apply them to freshly toned skin and pat them in. Essences offer more targeted treatments, more than cleansing and toning. Therefore, do not ignore them.
Serums and Ampoules
These boosters, serums, and ampules directly treat the issues skincare enthusiasts are most concerned about. Whether they target dull skin, large pores, pigmentation, wrinkles, or acne, serums are the ideal skin-perfecting step. Gently tap these into your skin! There are different serums and ampules available for different skin types.
Sheet Masks – Soul of Korean Beauty
All the skincare treatments one can come across, sheet masks are the easiest and friendliest of all. Just wear it on your face, and forget for the next 15-20 minutes. They do not even hinder the work, one can carry on with their tasks which they were doing before. And no washing the face afterwards. Just pat in the serums to better nourish your skin. They provide a quiet, meditative, and skin-nourishing ritual that imparts maximum benefits to the skin. Use them at least once or twice a week or every single day.
Eye creams are different than face creams because the skin around eyes is way more sensitive than the rest of the face. An eye cream provides the hydration and extra protection to the skin. Gently massage and pat (never rub) the cream to the skin around the eyes, avoiding the water line. Along with the eye creams, one can use face creams as well, but since the next step is a moisturizer, face creams are just redundant.
In simplest terms, moisturizers give to skin the moisture it needs. They come in many forms- gel, oil, creams or lotion. Choose whichever form you want and ensure hydration to your skin. They seal in moisture to plump up the skin and smooth away any fine lines. The frequency of using a moisturizer completely depends on the skin type. People with dry skin are advised to use it more often.
Sun is getting hotter with each day, right? Protection from it is a must even if it is just for 15-20 minutes. Protection from ultraviolet rays is essential since they harm the skin very much and the damage is hard to get rid of. Sometimes the UV rays can lead to skin cancer as well. So apply the SPF every morning and reapply as much as needed. Do not take this step lightly! Also, use the amount of SPF which goes by your skin. Higher SPF is not always beneficial.
